Research

My research focuses on:

– Molecular Cardiology

– Atherosclerosis

– Endothelial Function 

– Diabetes Mellitus in patients with Cardiovascular Disease.

I am the author (or co-author) of over 430 peer-reviewed publications in prestigious international scientific journals (Journal of the American College of Cardiology, International Journal of Cardiology, Current Medicinal Chemistry, et al.) with a total Impact Factor exceeding 2.000 and over 23,000 citations (h-index 70). 

I also serve as Section Editor (Cardiovascular Diseases) for the international biomedical journal Current Medicinal Chemistry (IF: 4.740). My scholarly output comprises the editing and authorship of 20 books and textbooks on Cardiology. The study in which I was lead author from Harvard Medical School and Mayo Clinic—published in JACC (IF: 24.090) in 2018—was selected that same year as one of the world’s 100 best papers in Cardiology.

I have participated as an invited speaker in significant international conferences abroad, and my abstracts total more than 300. I write extensively for the Greek print and online media on medical topics related to my specialty, as well as on broader topics related to education.
